The John W. Griffin Memorial Chess Fund, dedicated to fostering a passion for chess among youth, was founded with the goal of advancing the game's legacy. Its mission revolves around supplying essential equipment to local chess clubs and ensuring the Texas state tournament offers deserving prizes. By supporting this fund, you contribute to the enduring impact of chess education and the recognition of excellence in the Texas chess community.

In Memory of

Dolores Griffen

The John W. Griffin Memorial Chess Fund was named in honor of my father, whose passion for chess and belief in youth development continue to inspire this mission. Following the recent passing of my mother, Dolores, our family has chosen to further honor their legacy by creating a dedicated donation page for the Chess Fund. Contributions made in their memory directly support our goal of providing local chess clubs with essential equipment and helping Texas state tournaments offer the prizes and recognition young players deserve.

  • There is a Mass of Intention at St Bernard Church in North Kingstown, RI 02852 on Jan 23rd, 2026.

  • There is a Memorial Breakfast immediately following the Mass at Karie’s Kitchen in North Kingstown, RI 02852

  • There is an In-Lieu of Flowers option for anyone who wishes to make a donation in her memory.
